Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management, interpretive visitor center, or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge of basic customer service and safe work habits.
  • Ability to educate and inform visitors on compliance with rules and regulations and State laws; collect fees and make changes; sell merchandise and account for monies collected; read, maintain, and prepare records and reports; and assist visitors in emergency situations.
  • Daily interaction with site visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily operations at Sluice Boxes State Park and limited responsibility at Camp Baker - Smith River State Park; stationed in Great Falls but travel daily to Sluice Boxes State Park.
  • Conduct patrols of the park, predominantly on foot via the trail system; sometimes via watercraft (raft) on Belt Creek; foot patrols may require wading through and across Belt Creek.
  • Maintenance duties include cleaning and stocking a vault toilet, removing and packing out litter, dismantling and cleaning illegally constructed fire rings, dismantling illegally constructed rock dams in Belt Creek, minor trail maintenance and/or construction, maintaining and replacing trail signs and markers, and noxious weed control (mechanical pulling).
  • Non-maintenance duties include collecting day use fees, stocking maps and other educational materials in two kiosks, providing park information including rules and regulations, monitoring for hazards and taking corrective action, and notifying the supervisor.
  • Occasionally work with other Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks staff such as seasonal Groundskeeper, Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Wardens, other Parks and Outdoor Recreation Staff and the immediate supervisor.
  • Uniforms will be issued and staff are expected to represent the State of Montana positively and professionally while providing excellent customer service to the recreating public.
